Orlando Fire Department kicks off 'Book and Badges' reading program

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Fire Department kicked off their new "Books and Badges" reading program Monday morning.

The program, which partners Orlando Fire and the Early Learning Coalition in Orange County, puts firefighters and police officers in learning centers to read to children.

Orlando Fire Chief Roderick Williams kicked off the reading program Monday by reading to children at the St. Mark's Children Enrichment Center.

At least 30 firefighters from the Orlando Fire Department have volunteered to take part in the program.

The program's goal is to use local firefighters to teach children about fire safety.
