Parents of ill newborn have car stolen from driveway

Ultrasound pictures, car seat, baby clothes, engagement photos were inside car

OCALA, Fla. – A father and mother to an ill newborn have found themselves without a car after thieves stole it from their driveway.

Jessica Wood told News 6 she had been home from the neonatal intensive care unit for one day when the car she and her husband had saved up to buy was taken.

"He walked out of the house around 7:30 on Tuesday morning, and the car was gone," Wood said.

Wood said it wasn't just the 2015 Nissan Sentra that was taken. She said inside the car were her ultrasound pictures of their child, a brand-new car seat, baby clothes and her engagement photographs.

She says she left her key fob in the center console.

"We had a vehicle that was more of a woods vehicle. It wasn't safe for a baby, so we decided to sell it," Wood said. "He had a motorcycle and he decided to sell that. We put all of our money into getting a car safe enough for the baby to be in."

A couple of days after their car was stolen, there was a possible break in the case. After a series of burglaries, Wood said Ocala police told her they arrested a 15-year-old boy, who they brought to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.

She said authorities found her key fob on him, but he refused to tell them where the car was or who had it.

Now, she and her husband are renting a car, so he can go to work and she can bring their ill baby to doctor's appointments.

"I just don't understand what kind of person would take a car full of baby stuff," she said.
