Passenger dead in Volusia County crash involving 3 vehicles, FHP says

Drivers suffer serious injuries, according to FHP's report

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – One person is dead after a crash involving three vehicles Thursday in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 12:20 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 17 and State Road 70.

Troopers said a Ford pickup was heading south on U.S. 17, as a Kia Optima headed north. A Chevy pickup traveled behind the Kia.

The driver of the Ford traveled off the roadway onto the right shoulder, overcorrected and traveled into the northbound lane, troopers said.

The left side of the Ford struck the left side of the Kia. Troopers said the front of the Ford then struck the front of the Chevy head-on.

Each driver suffered serious injuries in the crash. A passenger inside the Chevy pickup was killed in the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol's report.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, troopers said.
