Pedestrian hurt in Orange County crash, Fire Rescue says

FHP investigates crash

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 14-year-old student was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in Orange County on Wednesday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol said the vehicle hit the girl at Waterford Chase Parkway and Oak Chase Drive in Orlando just before 7 a.m. while she was crossing the street to get to her bus stop.

A teacher saw the scene and recognized the student, stopped, and called the girl's father, who was able to come to the scene.

Orange County Fire Rescue said the teen was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital and is in stable condition.

FHP is investigating and the driver of the vehicle involved stayed on the scene. Troopers said they don't believe speed was a factor.

Upon investigation, it was determined the teen was walking in a marked crosswalk when she was struck.

Charges are pending against the driver for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
