Suspect shot by Winter Springs officers ID'd

Man charged with attempted homicide, assault

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – Authorities charged the man who they say pulled out a knife on Winter Springs police officers and ran toward them.

Jeffrey Worley, 24, has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and battery.

Police said they shot Worley when officers responded at 4:25 p.m. Sunday to the Casa Park Villas community about an altercation between neighbors.

The police chief confirmed to News 6 that a young girl was attacked and police were advised the suspect, later identified as Worley, attempted to pull off the girl's pants while she was walking a dog.

Police said during the investigation, Worley brandished a knife and advanced toward the officers.

This led at least one officer to discharge his firearm at Worley, who was hit, police said. His condition is unknown.

Police said no officers were hurt in the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrived to conduct the officer-involved shooting investigation.

The officer involved was identified as Cpl. Pat Donovan, a 19 year law enforcement veteran.
