3 cars involved in incident, officials say

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – Police are investigating a three-car crash in Cocoa Beach, officers and fire officials said Tuesday night.

Seven people were involved, according to the Cocoa Beach Fire Department.

Three of them were taken to hospitals and four refused to be transported.

A man in his 20s was brought to Holmes Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert, fire officials said. A woman and a child were taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where they’re listed as stable.

There’s no word on what caused the crash, the Cocoa Beach Police Department said.

The multivehicle collision took place just west of Cape Canaveral Hospital, Brevard County Fire Rescue said. Eastbound SR 520 remained shut down as of just after 9 p.m. Officials had no estimate as to when it would reopen.

News 6 originally called the crash deadly after Cocoa Beach police said, "A traffic fatality investigation (is) underway."

Now, as of just before 10 p.m., officers clarified, saying, "The person transported with life-threatening injuries has not been called deceased, but investigators are still treating it as a traffic homicide investigation due to his condition."
