MELBOURNE, Fla. – An Orange County man remained behind bars Thursday after he was arrested over the weekend and charged with trying to run over a police officer.
It happened Saturday morning when Brandon Culver, 28, took off from police on US-1 in Melbourne.

Police dash cam video shows a cruiser responding moments after Culver was pulled over for going 20 miles per hour over the speed limit.
As the vehicle pulled into a Kangaroo Express on Parkway Drive, police said Culver jumped into the back seat of the car, forcing the passenger to jump into the driver's seat and stop the car before it rammed into the gas station.
According to police, Culver then jumped out of the backseat, pushed the officer and fled.
"The individual then ran back to their vehicle, pushed the passenger out of the car and accelerated backwards into the police car," said Sgt. Sheridan Shelley with the Melbourne Police Department.
Shelley said that Culver almost hit the officer in the process.
From there, police said Culver took off northbound on US-1. Several police officers were in pursuit as the chase entered Rockledge.
Brevard County Sheriff's deputies were able to deploy stop sticks, deflating two of Culver's tires.
As the vehicle was still moving, the dash cam video shows Culver jump out and take off into Wuesthoff Medical Center's parking lot, about 10 miles away from where he was pulled over for speeding.
After a brief pursuit on foot, Culver was caught and arrested by Melbourne police officers.
"I really don't know why they would choose to go from a speeding ticket to a very serious felony charge," said Shelley.
Culver's background shows that he's had his license suspended more than 20 times and he has a criminal history.
Culver is now at the Brevard County jail on a no bond status and police said his license has been revoked.
