Former Kissimmee mayor Frank Attkisson struck, killed while riding bike

Crash reported at Kissimmee Park, Lake Tohopekaliga roads

ST. CLOUD, Fla. – The former mayor of Kissimmee was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday night while riding his bike in Osceola County, officials said.

Frank Attkisson died in the crash, which was reported at Kissimmee Park and Lake Tohopekaliga roads in St. Cloud.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the bicyclist was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The city of Kissimmee tweeted Friday that it is mourning the loss of Attkisson, who also served as an Osceola County commissioner from 2010 to 2014 and as a state representative from 2000 to 2008.

“Frank Attkisson’s numerous contributions to our community over decades of public service made Osceola County a better place. His vision over the years was always about serving the people who lived here," commission chairman Branon Arrington. "His ability to think of challenges as opportunities always engaged everyone around him to find the solutions that were the best for all of us. We miss him and we offer our support and condolences to his family, who were always his top priority.” 

No other details about the crash have been released.
