The DeBary City Council voted in August to remove Johnson from office after it determined he violated the city's charter.

Johnson has said that he will still file to run for his seat and has filed a lawsuit against the city.

The mayoral special election is scheduled for Jan. 17.

Candidates wishing to run must have their paperwork filed with the Supervisor of Elections Office by Nov. 4.
