Employee shot after knocking robber in head with bottle, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man is being sought after shooting a gas station employee during a robbery, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

It happened just before 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Citgo in the 13700 block of East Colonial Drive in Orlando

Deputies said a man entered the store with a black hoodie pulled over his head, brandished a firearm and demanded cash from a 59-year-old employee.

A 58-year-old employee, identified as George Maclennan, sneaked up and struck the robber on the head with a bottle. Deputies said the robber then turned around and shot Maclennan.

The robber ran out of the business and around a corner, where he is believed to have fled in a vehicle, deputies said. A description of the vehicle was not provided.

Maclennan was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition, deputies said. He was later listed in stable condition.

Deputies said a customer was in the store at the time, but he was not hurt.

The gunman was described by deputies as a man in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with an average build.
