Email scheme uses bogus background check

Public records impostor uses scare tactic for money

Former federal agent Robert McClintock said that according to a public records email he received March 21 his personal history was at risk.

McClintock a former internet investigator with the federal government, said the alert could intimidate anyone to click the link to find out what they found.

“It’s probably more of a scheme than a scam, McClintock told WKMG-TV "because they’re offering something but you have to pay for it.”

The email appears to come from public records and this email: onctob@isrzic68v7.cu.cc].

It reads attention:"One (1) or more negative items may have just been added to your public record file (within the last 48 hours).

"These items along with your previous personal history can easily be viewed by anyone that is searching your name or related information about you."

Using an assumed identity McClintock went onto the personal search site and found that you had to pay for any information. The same information you can find on Clerk of Court records or the internet.

“They’re going for money," McClintock said, “in the process of getting the money they also get your name and
address because you keep answering questions they put out there.”

McClintock said in his view the potential scam is your credit card information being sold to the highest bidder.
“Once you agree to pay for it via American Express, Visa or Master Card they can collect that information and they’ve got it," he said.
