Seminole County judge publicly reprimanded

Judge Jerri Collins admonished by Florida Supreme Court

SANFORD, Fla. – A Seminole County judge was publicly reprimanded Tuesday by the Florida Supreme Court.

Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Judge Jerri Collins was reprimanded after cameras caught her berating an alleged domestic abuse victim after the woman failed to show up to testify against her husband.

After a hearing, Collins found the woman in contempt of court and sent her to jail for three days in July 2015.

"Judge Collins, this is indeed a sad day for you, a sad day for the people of Florida and a sad day for the Judiciary on which our people depend for justice. I can not emphasize enough how intolerable your behavior was in this case," a Florida Supreme Court justice said.

In addition to the public reprimand, Collins was also ordered to take an anger management class and a course about domestic violence.
