WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. – A 21-year-old Longwood man was arrested on DUI charges after he allegedly crashed his pickup truck into a Seminole County sheriff's cruiser on the State Road 417 bridge over Lake Jesup.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Russell Foster Ownes was arrested early Thursday on charges of careless driving and DUI with property damage.

The FHP said no one was injured in the crash, which happened on northbound S.R. 417 near Winter Springs.

According to troopers, the 32-year-old deputy's car was stopped on the bridge with its lights activated when Ownes pickup slammed into it.

Officials said deputies were investigating a call of a boater in distress, but no other information about the boater was released.

Northbound lanes of S.R. 417 were closed during an investigation but later reopened.
