Spirit Airlines flight makes emergency landing at OIA

ORLANDO, Fla. – A Spirit Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Orlando International Airport on Friday afternoon.

Airport officials said the flight from Orlando to Labrobe, Pennsylvania, left at around 4 p.m. but returned at 5:05 p.m. due to reports of smoke in the cockpit.

The plane landed safely and all passengers were taken off the plane, according to officials.

Eight people -- six crew members and two passengers -- were taken to an area hospital, officials said. A spokesperson said the crew members decided to go to the hospital because protocol requires that they're given that option.

A spokesperson said the flight had a bad air pack with a bad odor that was stinking up the plane.

The rest of the passengers are still in the terminal waiting for the next flight. Spirit is flying in a whole new crew from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando to fly the plane to Pittsburg.

No other details were immediately available.
