Strong storms forecast for Central Florida

Rain, lightning, strong winds expected in Orlando area

ORLANDO, Fla. – An area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico and a front will act as a focal point for more showers and a few storms into Wednesday afternoon across Central Florida for the first day of spring.

Spring officially arrived at 7:02 a.m. Wednesday.  Later, the high temperature will warm to 80 degrees in Orlando.

"Some storms will be strong, with heavy rain, lightning and strong winds," Local 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said.  "The timing won't be good for the afternoon drive home into the evening hours."

Temps cool into the 50s Wednesday night after the front moves to the south.

Highs on Thursday will be in the low 70s and rain chances drop to 20 percent.

Mid- and upper 80-degree temperatures return for the weekend.
