Student threatened to shoot up Marion high school, officials say

Lake Weir High School student arrested

OCALA, Fla. – A student was arrested Wednesday in Marion County on allegations of making a threat against other students, deputies said.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook that the student made threats against students at Lake Weir High School.

Marion County Public Schools said the student threatened to shoot up the school. Another student overheard the threat and notified school officials.

Deputies identified the student who made the threat, and the student was arrested. After the arrest, some of the student's friends also started making threats, officials said.

No gun was found on campus, school officials said.

Additional deputies will be present at Lake Weir High on Thursday to provide security and reassure parents about school safety.

"There is currently no active or credible threat against LWHS or its students," the post said.
