Persons of interest sought in Halloween double homicide

Convicted felon cut off GPS monitoring device, police say

SANFORD, Fla. – Sanford police are looking to locate a man wanted for questioning in a double homicide in Sanford on Halloween, according to a news release.

Dante Lamar James, a convicted felon, was under supervision for firearm and narcotics-related charges, but he cut off his GPS monitoring device around 6:15 a.m. Thursday morning, Sanford police said.

An arrest warrant was issued for James' arrest that same day. Police said they believe it's possible he's with his girlfriend, Shawbeta Ann Seal, in her gray 2004 Nissan Titan.

James is a person of interest in the homicides of Joseph Smith and Roland DeLoatch, police said. Both men were shot to death during a home invasion in Sanford on Halloween night.

Anyone with information on James' whereabouts or the murders of Smith and DeLoatch are asked to contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
