DENVER – Teachers dedicate themselves to improving the lives of students. One Colorado teacher went above and beyond her normal duties to save a student's life.
Jen Sculley, a physical education teacher at East High School in Denver, donated a kidney to a student in need.
Sculley told Local 6 CBS Denver affiliate KCNC she donated the kidney to honor the memory of her late aunt, who died from cancer last year.
"She gave me hope on days when I didn't have any," Sculley told KCNC.
Sculley says she knew it was her calling to give the student her kidney when she found out the student had the same name as her aunt.
"As she was telling me, this very clear voice said, 'You're going to give her a kidney,'" Sculley told KCNC.
Doctors informed Sculley she was indeed a medical match with the student.
The student, who asked to remain anonymous, told KCNC she was grateful for her teacher's gift.
Sculley told the station the only thing she wants in return is for her student to live a long life.
"When she's 50, they're going to be like 'Do you still have that old gym teacher's kidney?' and she's going to be like 'Yeah!'" Sculley said.
