Teen shot by Rockledge officer gets home detention

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – The 17-year-old shot by a veteran Rockledge police officer was ordered by a juvenile judge Tuesday to home detention. The teen was also ordered to have no contact with his co-defendant.

A delinquency trial has been set for December 22.

The teen gripped his left shoulder in pain as he was led out of the courtroom. His mother called the shooting 'disturbing' and says she wants the officer to pay.

"I just want to something done about the officer who violated my son," April Coney told News 6 partner FLORIDA TODAY as she waited for the hearing to begin at the Moore Justice Center in Viera.

"My son didn't resist and half of what they're saying is not true," she said without elaborating. "It's been a rough few days for my son."

The teen lives in Melbourne with his aunt. He was charged with three felony counts of vehicle burglary and one felony count of grand theft in connection with what police said was a series of break-ins that led to the Dec.1 confrontation with officers in a Rockledge neighborhood.

The officer involved in the shooting, Cpl. Nick Galluzzi, remains on administrative leave pending a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation.

The teen, who was recently released from a hospital, turned himself in Monday at the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, officials said.
