Trio documents UCF bowl road trip

Knights take on Baylor in first-ever BCS game for UCF

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – In just two days, the University of Central Florida Knights will kick off the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day.

An historic game for UCF because it is their first-ever BCS bowl appearance. The team will take on the Baylor Bears in Glendale, Arizona. And for the first time, we are hearing from some fans who really went the distance to cheer on the Knights.

Meet Zack Shields, Ricky Currey, and David Thomas. They are UCF alums, former Marching Knights, old roommates, who are now embarking on an adventure 3-days long and 2,100 miles each way.

"We're doing it the best way we can, getting the most people out there for the cheapest price," said Currey, who will be driving from Orlando to the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

With plane tickets at nearly $600, many fans said they were going to make a road trip out of it and for these guys they are taking you with them.

"To be able to hang out with us, we're going to be doing video updates, we've got the Twitter feed on there, live GPS tracking," said Currey.

Their website is called UCFiestaTrippin.com and they will be documenting every part of their trip via their website. A trip that's relied on donations.

"We actually got a donation and it was contingent on us stopping and having a hot dog-eating contest somewhere along the way, somewhere in mid-Texas," Currey said.

'We get to make this once-in-a-lifetime trip, having people live vicariously through us.  It's a good feeling," said Thomas.

"It's exciting, I mean, we're in a BCS bowl and it's never happened before and we've had an amazing year, so you can't be disappointed about that," Shields said.

Reuniting with old friends and watching their alma mater duke it out on New Year's Day.

They plan to arrive on Dec. 31.
