2 dead in shootout, crash in Orange County, deputies say

Nearby church hit by bullets, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County deputies are searching for the people involved in a shooting that ended with two people dead in a rollover crash Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, one victim's family is pleading for the shooters to turn themselves in.

"It just hit me real hard,” said Elizabeth Harriell, of her daughter, Darlene Harriell. “I can't believe she gone. I got to bury her.”

Elizabeth Harriell has never imagined having to plan her daughter's funeral.

"She got thrown out,” she said. “I'm hurting right now. I'm hurting."

Deputies said the incident took place on 23rd Street and Orange Blossom Trail.

The situation began when people in two vehicles began shooting at each other around 12:10 p.m.

A pickup truck fled from 23rd Street, but the driver of the other vehicle caught up and shot the driver of the pickup, causing the truck to flip, deputies said.

Darlene Harriell, the passenger, was trying to get out of the truck, but was ejected from it after the driver lost control, the Sheriff's Office said. Harriell landed underneath the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

Deputies said the driver of the truck, 29-year-old Sylvio Montina, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The Sheriff's Office said deputies are looking for the people inside the other vehicle, which was described only as dark-colored.

Deputies said a nearby church, Haitian Church of Brethren, was also hit by bullets, but no one there was injured.

Harriell's family is coping with the loss, saying Darlene left behind four kids between the ages of 10 and 12. The family set up a GoFundMe page for help with funeral expenses.
