Verizon bringing 700 jobs to Lake Mary

LAKE MARY, Fla. – Florida Gov. Rick Scott will be among the attendees at the grand opening of a Verizon communications center in Lake Mary that will bring 700 jobs to Central Florida.

The Verizon Communications' Center of Excellence for finance and accounting opened Friday in Seminole County.

Verizon announced an additional 350 jobs at the Verizon center on Friday, totaling 1,100 jobs in accounting, payroll, commissions and revenue assurance.

"The vast majority are coming from the central Florida community- we've got 500 plus hired thus far," said Michelle Robinson, Vice President of Governmental Affairs.

Officials said Verizon selected the Orlando region from more than 300 locations across the nation, ultimately choosing Lake Mary because of the area's talent pool and local and state support.

The Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission said Verizon was recently named No. 2 in the nation among large U.S. markets for its shared services centers.
