COCOA, Fla. – A member of the Warlocks motorcycle club was arrested over the weekend after Brevard County sheriff's deputies said he shot a Volusia County Warlock club member who had been subpoenaed to testify in court against members of the Brevard club.
Deputies say John Charles Haskell shot Larry Spohn in the right arm. Spohn is a witness to a shooting that involves members of the Brevard County club.
Haskell was arrested, booked in the Brevard County Jail on a charge of attempted first-degree premeditated murder.
Deputies said Spohn was riding a motorcycle south on Interstate 95 when he was shot. He didn't see the shooter, but told deputies two people were riding with him.
One person riding with Spohn, identified in BCSO records as "Witness-1," said he saw a white Chrysler follow the group for three to five miles. When they got near Fiske Boulevard, the car pulled up next to them, the witness saw a puff of smoke from the driver's side window and heard a gunshot. The car immediately exited the highway.
"Witness-2" told police he saw a man hold a semi-automatic handgun out the window of the Chrysler, pull up to Spohn and fire.
Police found a car matching the witness description near Fiske Boulevard and State Road 520. Haskell was driving. He "was positively identified along with the vehicle as the person who shot Mr. Spohn," records show.
Deputies say the Warlocks are a "documented criminal street gang," Haskell is a member and he committed a crime "for the purpose of benefitting, promoting or furthering the interests of the gang."
