Cops: Wife accidentally shot, killed while pastor husband cleaned gun

APOPKA, Fla. – Deputies have identified the woman who was accidentally shot and killed by her husband, a pastor, while he was cleaning his gun Monday.

Deputies said the shooting was reported at a home on Winifred Road in Apopka just before 10 p.m. 

Katie Reid, 62, was rushed to Florida Hospital Apopka where she was later pronounced dead. Her husband, Darrell Reid, has not been arrested and deputies say the incident is an open and active death investigation.

Investigators spoke with Darrell Reid, who is the pastor of Happy Hill Ministries, for several hours. Police are calling the shooting accidental.

Through a records request, Orange County deputies say they have been out to the house 23 times for calls of service in the last 3 years.

A close family friend who didn't want to be identified told News 6 the couple had a violent relationship. Detectives did not say if they suspect foul play.

According to his criminal history, Darrell Reid has been arrested several times on violent offenses. The most recent in 2014 when he was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, but that charge was later not prosecuted.

The Reids led their church services from inside their home.

No other details were immediately available.
