Woman breaks free from cuffs, bites deputy

Ashley Marlatt spit on deputy, threw rocks at patrol car, deputies say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County deputies were called to a home in the 5500 block of Southeast 34th Court for a well-being check on a woman, but while they were there they realized the woman's boyfriend had an active warrant for his arrest.

Deputies said they arrested the man, but the woman, Ashley Marlatt, began yelling and throwing rocks at the deputy's patrol vehicle. She also spit on the deputy and charged at him.

According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, as the deputy was attempting to place Marlatt's hands behind her back to handcuff her, she bit the deputy's middle finger, cutting it.

Deputies said Marlatt was placed in the patrol car, but was somehow able to remove her handcuffs. Deputies were able to place her back in her handcuffs.

Marlatt is charged with battery on law enforcement officer and resisting with violence.
