NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Two hospital patients sharing the same room have become quite close friend-- so much so that one woman is getting results in trying to make her new friend's life a little easier.
News 6 first introduced you to Diane Harper last week, when she decided she was going to cut her hair to make a custom wig.
When Harper was in the hospital back in June, she shared a room with Dana Adamson-Breski. The two quickly cultivated a friendship after Adamson-Breski was told the news that doctors needed to perform a biopsy after finding a lump, which would turn into non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
So after one patient saw her hair fall out, the other decided to help out.
"It was a complete random thought of 'I kind of want to cut my hair,'" said Harper. "One of my friends is going through a rough time right now. Maybe she wants my hair because it is kind of nice and then she did. So here's where we ended all up.'"
Two feet of luscious red hair, prepped and ready to become a custom wig.
"It's going to feel very satisfying that I didn't just chop it off for vanity, or for convenience," Harper added. "I chopped it off because someone needed it."
Harper hopes to raise enough money in the near future to buy that new custom wig. Because it can take five to eight weeks to make them, she hopes she can have it ready for her new friend by the holidays, so they can both show off their new looks.
