Police: Woman shot other woman during fight in Orlando home

Victim taken to hospital; suspect arrested on attempted murder charge

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 43-year-old Orlando woman was arrested Wednesday on attempted murder charges after another woman was shot in the chest during a fight.

Shantelle Renee Bennett was arrested on a second-degree attempted murder charge.

Police said Bennett and another women, both of whom are mothers of families living in a West Washington Street home, got into a fist fight, and Bennett shot the other woman in her upper chest.

Police described the victim as a 41-year-old woman. She was in stable but serious condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Orlando police said officers were called to the home and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Bennett was sitting on a couch and said, "The gun is in my purse," according to an arrest affidavit.

Bennett was placed in handcuffs and taken into custody. She was later arrested.

It's not known what prompted the fight.

A judge granted Bennett a $25,000 bond and ordered her to have no contact with the victim or any witnesses to the shooting.
