Woman shot dead near her children in Orlando home invasion

Boyfriend arrested on drug charges

ORLANDO, Fla. – Deputies on Wednesday identified the woman shot and killed in an Orlando home invasion while her toddler and infant were nearby.  The woman's boyfriend, meanwhile, turned himself in to authorities on unrelated drug charges.

YolizMarie DeJesus Borrero, 22, was shot in the upper body around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday at 3505 Millrace Court near Semoran Blvd. and Hoffner Avenue.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, three masked men kicked in the door of the home and shot Borrero.  The children, who deputies said were in the same room or nearby, were not injured.

Borrero's live-in boyfriend, John Michael DeJesus, 27, was not injured in the shooting, but deputies said he turned himself in Wednesday night on drug charges, including possession of cocaine and possession of cannabis.  He later posted bond and was released.

"The (intruders) were there for money. They came looking for money. They got their money and fled on foot," Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jeff Williamson said.

A detailed description of the men was not known.  Investigators searched a pond after someone reported seeing the men run in that direction.

Investigators do not believe that the shooting was a random act of violence.

"It's very sad for everybody, and I  never think about his happening in my neighborhood," neighbor Mildys Pabey said.  "I was thinking it was a good place to live, but now it's a different story."

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

Officials said it's not believed that the shooting is related to another fatal home invasion that occurred Tuesday night on Texas Avenue in Orange County.
