Orange County discusses plans for new animal shelter

Current shelter does not have air conditioning

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County commissioners on Tuesday talked about plans to possibly replace the county's aging animal shelter.

The shelter on Conroy Road was built in the 1980s, but does not have air conditioning. A study has shown adding A/C to the building is not feasible.

The commission decided that design crews will look at building a brand new Orange County animal shelter. The commission  will look at the option of building on its existing site, but also two other locations.

Also, costs have to be determined before a decision is made.

The current shelter was built as a rabies and vaccine center and was not intended to house as many animals as it does.
