Smunday? Heinz wants Monday after Super Bowl to be national holiday

Petition seeks 100,000 signatures

PITTSBURGH, Penn. – Heinz says it is working to make the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday.

[VOTE AT BOTTOM OF STORY: Should day after Super Bowl be a national holiday?]

The company is asking people to sign an online petition in support of the change it is affectionately calling "Smunday."

If the petition gets 100,000 signatures, it will be sent to Congress.

Heinz says the country loses $1 billion of productivity on the post-Super Bowl Monday, and 16 million people call in sick or do not show up to work at all.

The company also says it will be giving all of its employees "Smunday" off.
