Gatorland announces plans to expand trail called 'Stompin' Gator Off-Road Adventure'

Groundbreaking for new off-road adventure happened on Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida's biggest gator park is clearing the way for some more fun. Gatorland is expanding with a new action trail called "Stompin' Gator Off-Road Adventure."

"These are mudslinging, gator-jumping, pond-stumping swamp buggies, it's going to be a blast," Gatorland president and CEO Mark McHugh said.

They are still building the trail, but it will take you through nature's woods, swamps and in the water with their famous gators.

"Where the swamp buggies will go down into the water, across this pond full of giant alligators. Of course, we're designing it so that the gators are safe and they're not going to jump in and eat people in the swamp buggy," McHugh said.

Gatorland built three monster truck-like swamp buggies that'll plow through the land. They hold at least 12 people and will be about a 15-minute ride. They wanted to educate visitors on the reptiles many are afraid of, while still keeping it exciting.

"We really started developing adventure-based activities and experiences for people about 10 years ago, a number of activities in the park for people to get their hands on the animals and learn and experience something," McHugh said.

"Stompin' Gator Off-Road Adventure" opens up in the fall.
