Man killed in head-on Lake County crash identified

2 people airlifted to ORMC in critical condition

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 46-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash Monday in Lake County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Herbert Charlestin, 46, of Haiti, died in the crash, which was reported on State Road 33 at Pine Island Road.

The FHP said a Toyota Sienna carrying three people, including Charlestin, was southbound on S.R. 33 when the driver attempted to pass other vehicles. 

The minivan crashed head-on with a truck that was headed north, the FHP said.

The driver and other passenger of the minivan were critically injured and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, the FHP said.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

Charges are pending against the driver of the minivan, the FHP said.
