The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said Juan C. Andino Jr. was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi sedan north on Charles R. Beall Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he attempted to change lanes.

Deputies said Andino “impacted another vehicle,” causing the Mitsubishi to redirect across the median and the southbound lanes before striking a concrete utility pole head-on.

Andino was pronounced dead at the scene, according to sheriff’s officials.

The other driver was not injured, deputies said.

The crash shut down Charles R. Beall Boulevard until early Monday.
