Brevard man arrested on 6th DUI charge

Darryl Kenneth Snyder arrested in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A man with five previous DUI convictions was arrested early Monday in Melbourne on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

Darryl Kenneth Snyder, 46, of Melbourne, was arrested on charges of DUI with three or more prior arrests, reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude, driving with a suspended license and refusal to submit.
Melbourne police said an officer spotted a tan Ford SUV running a stop sign at McClendon and Avocado avenues.

Police said the driver, later identified as Snyder, refused to stop and led officers on a low-speed pursuit that ended at his home on Highland Avenue.

Snyder was arrested and was found to have a revoked license with five prior DUI convictions and an additional arrest in which the DUI charge was reduced to reckless driving, police said.

"When you see something like this, when you have multiple arrests for the same type of crime, they don't much care for what's going in the judicial system or their sentence," said Melbourne Police Cmdr. Sean Riordan. "It's a good thing our officers are observant enough that they can find them, make sure they're no longer on the street."

"He clearly represents a danger to the public of Brevard County," Assistant State Attorney Gary Beatty said to a judge during Snyder's first appearance Monday at the Brevard County Jail.

Judge Kelly Ingram satisfied the state's demands to not allow Snyder to get behind the wheel again, under the conditions of his $68,000 bond.

Melbourne police said Snyder was out on inmate release after serving a prison sentence for felony DUI.

Snyder refused to perform any field-sobriety tests or a breath test, police said.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 28.

He will be represented by the Public Defender's Office.
