Woman killed in crash at I-4 rest stop near Lake Mary

Troopers ID victim as Vanessa Rivera

LAKE MARY, Fla. – A 29-year-old Deltona woman was killed early Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash at the entrance to the Lake Mary rest stop off I-4, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Vanessa Rivera died in the crash, which was reported at 1:50 a.m. on I-4 east at mile marker 96.

The FHP said Rivera was driving a 2001 Acura east on I-4 when she crossed over the outside lane and struck a no parking sign. The car then crashed into a tree and Rivera, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car, troopers said.

Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's not known if alcohol played a role in the crash, but tests are pending, the FHP said.

Traffic on I-4 was not affected by the crash.
