The National Hurricane Center said conditions are expected to gradually become more conducive, saying there's a 60 percent of potential development within the next two days and a 70 percent chance within the next 5 days. If it becomes a named storm, it will be called Bonnie.

Computer models show the system tracking to the northwest. Most models take the area of low pressure into the Carolinas sometime Saturday or Sunday.

Hurricane Hunters will investigate the disturbance on Friday, and weather officials said residents along the Southeast seaboard should keep an on the system.

"The impact in Central Florida should be minimal with this system, but this is a good reminder that hurricane season is just around the corner," News 6 meteorologist Candace Campos said. "This is the time to prepare and stay informed."

The Atlantic hurricane season officially starts June 1.

Sub-Tropical Storm Alex became a named storm four months ago, the first time since 1978 that Central Florida had a named storm in the Atlantic in January.

Meanwhile, high pressure remains in control over the Sunshine State on Thursday, keeping a pocket of drier air in place.

A light, onshore breeze will keep highs along the coast in the mid-80s. Inland areas will see highs in the upper 80s. Rain coverage will remain minimal at 10 to 20 percent for the rest of the week.

The chance of rain and storms begins to rise into the Memorial Day weekend, depending on the movement of the area of low pressure.
