VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Deltona man was arrested early Wednesday morning after deputies said he threatened to shoot a student driver who cut him off in traffic.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to a Publix along Doyle Road on Tuesday evening after receiving reports about a “disturbance between the occupants of two vehicles.”

While en route, the deputy learned that the occupant of one of the vehicles had threatened to shoot the occupants of the other car, investigators explained.

In an arrest affidavit, deputies said that the victims — a student driver and her father — had been driving along Braddock Road, and the student driver accidentally entered an intersection, believing she had the right of way.

As they tried to get the car out of the roadway, they reportedly cut off a white SUV, driven by Mark Vierra, 59, the affidavit shows.

In response, Vierra reportedly began yelling at the pair, though the driver’s father tried to explain the situation, asking Vierra to “move along due to the mistake,” deputies said.

However, Vierra made a U-turn and blocked the pair, continuing to yell at them and threatening to shoot them both, the affidavit says.

According to investigators, a witness told the responding deputy that Vierra had fled from the scene after making the threats.

Deputies said they then went to Vierra’s home in Deltona, and found that he was carrying a handgun in a holster in his pocket.

Vierra was arrested and faces charges of improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon, committing a third-degree felony with a weapon, and two counts of aggravated assault. He was released later Wednesday afternoon on bond of $16,000.
