Nissan recalls 39,000 cars due to gear problem

2012 Versa models could suddenly shift out of park

Nissan is recalling the 2012 Versa due to a gear shift problem.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Nissan has announced it is recalling 39,000 of its 2012 Versa model cars because of a problem with the gear shift.

The automaker says "due to interference between the shift rod and shift knob," the car could switch out of the park position without letting go of the brake pedal.

Nissan says it will begin notifying affected owners shortly. 

Owners will be given a free repair at their local dealership.
