Sportex recalls thousands of salt rock lamps

Lamps sold at Michaels, other stores nationwide

Sportex US, a garments manufacturing firm, recalled almost 4,000 Lumiere Rock Salt Lamps Tuesday because of an issue with a dimmer switch that was posing shock and fire hazards, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Tuesday's recall of 3,900 lamps comes after 80,000 lamps were recalled in January. The lamps, which come in three styles, are commonly sold at Michaels craft stores and other stores nationwide for $15 to $30.

The CPSC said the company recalled the product because the dimmer switch and/or outlet plug on the lamp could overheat and ignite.

Sportex offered refunds and repairs to customers with lamps sold from July to December 2016.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the lamps and return them to the store where purchased to receive a full refund or a replacement kit," the CPSC said in a release.

The following UPC codes for each of the three style lamps were included in the release:

Rock of Gibraltar Lamp: 00886946056253

Carnival Lights: 00886946058325

Basket of Rocks:  00886946056277
