Shooting threat found at Lake Mary High School

Authorities investigate; school officials believe threat not credible

A threat is found at Lake Mary High School.

LAKE MARY, Fla. – A threat found at Lake Mary High School is being investigated by authorities, but school officials do not believe it is credible.

Seminole County Public Schools told News 6 that a message was found in a bathroom at the school, and students were spreading the message on social media.

The message said, "Monday, February 13, 2017, bulets (sic) will fly. Don't show up. You have been warned."

SCPS said that officials are "doing our due-diligence to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Preventative measures will be in place as added-precaution."

The school sent out email and phone messages to parents: 

"You may be hearing from your student of via social media about a threat written on a bathroom wall scheduled for Monday, February 13th.  Please know that we are aware of the situation and law enforcement is investigating fully.  At this point we believe this threat to be non-credible.  However, as always, we are doing our due-diligence to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We treat any and all threats extremely seriously. Preventative measures will be in place along with added security as an extra precaution."

The email was signed by principal Michael Kotkin.
