Athlete of Year: Woody Barrett

I first met Woody Barrett last year when he was a junior and I talked to a quarterback who was as charismatic on the field as he was off it. I asked him to describe "Woody Football." This is what he told me:

"Just loose. Just have fun the whole game."

That hasn't changed.

"You come out Friday and watch the game, we're gonna ball. We're gonna put on a show like we usually do," said Barrett after West Orange's victory over Ocoee on Friday. "That's West Orange football."

He was terrific in 2014 and Barrett's been even better this fall.

Defenses have tried to stop him but most have failed as he's led West Orange to a 9 & 1 record and a second consecutive district title.

Woody's considered one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the entire country.
His numbers and performances this year back that up: over 1,000 yards passing and over 1,000 yards rushing.

He's thrown for 15 touchdowns. He's run for 16 more.

"I can't talk enough about Woody Barrett," said West Orange Head Coach Bob Head, "He's a fantastic talent. He's a great quarterback and he's a leader of our football team. He's the real deal."

Barrett's abilities got him a scholarship to Auburn and an invite to the Under Armour All-American game.

Perhaps, they'll get West Orange to the state championship.

"The mission isn't complete," said Barrett, "We still got a lot of work to do and we're gonna get it done come Monday."
