Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said incorrect information was provided to media Monday which indicted legendary rocker Tom Petty had died. The agency later said they cannot confirm Petty's death.
"The LAPD has no information about the passing of singer Tom Petty. Initial information was inadvertently provided to some media sources," the department tweeted. "However, the LAPD has no investigative role in this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience in this reporting."

Petty is “clinging to life” and not expected to live much longer, reported TMZ.
Petty, 66, was found not breathing and in full cardiac arrest. He was rushed to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital. His condition is unknown.
Petty is best known for being the lead singer of "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers," with several hits to his credit.
Petty, a Florida native, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
Petty attended Gainesville High School.
