WATCH: Trailer for new 'Star Wars' movie released

The trailer for the highly anticipated "Star Wars" movie set to hit theaters at the end of the year was released Monday night.

"Star Wars" officials released the 2 1/2-minute tease for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" just before 10 p.m. and Twitter users quickly responded.

In less than 30 minutes, the trailer had been retweeted nearly 50,000 times and received more than 52,000 likes.

The movie hits theaters Dec. 15 and tickets are already available for purchase.
