MIAMI, Fla. – A South Florida restaurant chain is doing something bizarre this summer: handing out free cocktails to customers who bring in a certain kind of fruit.
More specifically, Bodega Taqueria y Tequila announced that it’s hosting a “BYOM” (Bring Your Own Mango) promotion to celebrate mango season.

During the promotion, customers can bring a mango to one of the chain’s three Miami-area locations — situated in South Beach, Coconut Grove and Coral Gables — and receive a free Mango Tango cocktail, made with Dobel Diamante, 1800 Coconut, mango puree, pineapple juice, and lime juice.
“No mango? No problem — the Mango Tango is also available for purchase for $16," the chain’s website reads.
Bodega’s promotion runs through Aug. 31, and it’s limited to one cocktail per guest.
However, it’s not the only restaurant in the Miami area celebrating mango season.
Other eateries in the area that have allowed customers to pay with mangoes include the following:
- Tomorrowland — Announced customers can score a free “Spicy Nikki” cocktail if they pay with fresh mangoes
- Narbona — Through June 30, customers could receive a Mango gelato in exchange for four large mangoes
- Peel Soft Serve — Told customers to bring in five pounds of mangoes to their Miami Shores location in exchange for a small “Peel bowl,” served with up to two toppings and a drizzle
- Whip ‘n Dip Ice Cream Shoppe — Hosts an annual “Mango Swap,” where customers can exchange mangoes for ice cream
- Zak the Baker — Through June 30, customers could trade in six mangoes for one loaf of bread
