DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona Beach authorities are calling one I-95 driver "lucky" Wednesday morning after they survived a crowbar smashing through their windshield on the highway.
The driver was traveling on 95 just south of LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach when the metal rod came flying into their front window right next to the steering wheel, a spokesperson with the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Luckily, the person driving the pickup truck was unhurt by the flying projectile, FHP officials said.
Officials with Daytona Beach Fire Department said the crowbar was kicked up from a semi truck that was in driving front of the pickup truck.
Pictures by the fire department show that the crowbar completely penetrated the windshield on the driver's side.
"No injuries to [the] lucky driver who had [a] crowbar fly though windshield when driving behind a semi," tweeted the fire department.
FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes told News 6 that the driver was hit by broken glass, but will be fine.
"This happens all the time," Montes said of flying road debris.
