2 shot in Mount Dora Walmart parking lot, officials say

Victims airlifted to area hospitals

MOUNT DORA, Fla. – Two people were shot in the parking lot of a Mount Dora Walmart on Friday night, officials said.

Police were called to the Walmart at Eudora Road and 441 around 9:23 p.m. and arrived to find one person shot in the back and another person shot in the knee.

A Walmart employee said he was in the parking lot when he heard a single shot then saw a man running toward him, yelling, "Somebody help me, I've been shot," according to the report.

About a minute later, the employee said he saw another shooting victim come out of the driver side of a black four-door Honda.

Officials said both victims were airlifted from the scene -- one to Orlando Regional Medical Center, and the other to Central Florida Regional Hospital.

Police said the shooters left the area and are now being sought.

“We work to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone at our store," a Walmart representative said in a statement. "We'll assist law enforcement in any way possible during their investigation."

The area remains an active crime scene as detectives investigate.
