P.I. complaints against Baez escalated

Casey Anthony's defense attorney investigated by bar

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida bar has escalated complaints filed against Casey Anthony's defense attorney, Jose Baez.

Private investigator Dominic Casey filed a complaint against Baez, claiming that the attorney told him to not call 911 if he found Caylee Anthony's body.

Casey worked for Baez and the Anthony family in the months before Caylee's body was found. He has footage of a search of the area off Suburban Drive where the toddler's body was eventually found. Casey said he never found Caylee's body during any of his searches.

Complaints filed with the bar against attorneys are first examined at the staff level by the bar. Many complaints are dismissed at this level, Local 6 News reporter Mike DeForest said.

Casey's complaint was not dismissed at the staff level and has been forwarded to a grievance committee, which is the next level of investigation.

The grievance committee is comprised of attorneys and private citizens who will conduct a thorough investigation to determine whether or not there is probable cause that a bar ethics violation occurred.

If the committee finds probable cause, the complaint will be escalated to the disciplinary process.

Another bar complaint involving Baez's former public relations firm, Press Corps Media, has also been filed, but details of the complaint are not known.

Caylee was reported missing in July and her body was found in December. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter.
