GROVELAND, Fla. – An 18-year-old Groveland man was killed and his 19-year-old passenger was injured early Thursday morning when a red Mustang crashed in Lake County.
Mario Novoa Gomez was killed in the crash, which occurred about 3:50 a.m. on Villa City Road near Lucy Lee Road in Groveland. Gomez was not wearing a seat belt, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The passenger, Timothy DeLong, of Groveland, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, the FHP said.
According to authorities, Gomez lost control of the car while driving through a curve, went into a wooded area and crashed into a tree about 300 yards off the roadway.
No one witnessed the crash, and it's not yet known if speed or alcohol may have been factors, the FHP said.
