Volusia County Fair opens; Free admission offered Thursday

More than 40 rides and live music set up at the Expo Center

The Volusia County Fair & Youth Show kicks off Thursday at the Fair & Expo Center in Deland.

DeLAND, Fla. – The 10-day Volusia County Fair and Youth Show opens Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Fair & Expo Center in DeLand.

Organizers are offering free admission for all customers on Thursday.  However, attendees will still have to buy a ride bracelet.

The 2011 fair will feature more than 40 rides and live music performances by Uncle Kracker, Chubby Checker and Craig Campbell.  The fair will also have animal shows, markets and food.

The Miss Volusia County Fair Queen Pageant happens on the first day of the fair.  The pageant kicks off at 7:30 p.m., following the opening ceremony at 7 p.m.

Admission tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6 to 12.  Kids under age 5 are allowed into the fair for free.

The price of ride bracelets varies depending on the day.  The bracelets cost anywhere from $15 to $25.
