MASCOTTE, Fla. – A man thought to be killed after he had fled to Mexico was arrested Tuesday, in connection to a 1992 murder.

Daniel Aguilera was wanted for a shooting that killed Xochitl Patino on West Myers Boulevard in Moscotte, according to a Lake County Sheriff's Office release.

Mascotte police had received an arrest warrant for Aguilera for the 1992 shooting, but during the investigation police received information that he had been killed in Mexico.

A Lake County deputy received a tip in early November that Daniel Aguilera had been living under the name Gerardo Aguilera Vargas for the past 18 years in Avon Park.

That tip led to deputies arresting Aguilera Tuesday.
